Questions

Straight answers, no hedging.

The questions practitioners ask before they subscribe — about sources, confidentiality, and what the software will and will not do.

Is Lex Aurum live, or still in beta?+

Lex Aurum is live and accepting paid subscriptions, with active subscribers and live billing. It is under continuous development — new modules and refinements ship regularly — but it is not labelled a beta and there is no separate future 'general release'; the live version is the current release.

Which AI models does the platform run on?+

Lex Aurum runs on Google's Gemini family of models, with Gemini 2.5 Flash powering the research assistant. Models may change over time as better ones become available, and we will always use providers that do not train on customer inputs.

Which sources does it draw on for case law and legislation?+

Lex Aurum does not pull from licensed commercial databases such as Juta, LexisNexis or Sabinet, and it does not run a live SAFLII feed. Outputs are generated from the AI model's training knowledge of South African law. That makes it fast and broad, but it also means every citation, statutory reference and statement of law must be independently verified against a current primary source before you rely on it.

Are my documents or queries used to train AI models?+

No. Your documents and queries are not used to train or improve any model, ours or a third party's. The model provider does not retain inputs for model improvement.

Where is my data hosted and processed?+

The application and database run on Lovable Cloud infrastructure. AI inference happens outside South Africa, which we rely on POPIA section 72 safeguards for (and GDPR standard contractual clauses where applicable). Uploaded documents sit in private storage with row-level access control scoped to your account.

How long is my data retained?+

Documents are deleted within 30 days of account deletion. Account and matter data is retained for the life of the account and 12 months afterwards, unless you request earlier erasure. You can request a full export or deletion from your account page at any time.

What does the free trial include?+

Fourteen days from sign-up, with every module unlocked and five AI prompts a day. No card is required. After the trial, read-only browsing stays open, but AI generation, uploads, saving to history and document downloads require a subscription.

How do I qualify for judiciary or prosecutor pricing?+

Judiciary pricing is verified by an @lcjudiciary.org.za address and prosecutor pricing by an @justice.gov.za address. Sign up with that address and the relevant plan becomes available to you.

How is billing handled, and can I cancel?+

Billing is monthly in South African rand through Paddle, our merchant of record. You can cancel or change your plan at any time from the billing page in the app; access continues to the end of the paid period. See the refund policy for details.

Does Lex Aurum give legal advice?+

No. Lex Aurum is software you operate yourself. No lawyers or advisers are provided through the platform, nothing it produces is legal advice, and professional responsibility for any work product remains entirely with you.

Still unsure? Send us your question.

The best answer is fourteen days of use.
